Mission

Through a peer based advocacy model, SARC supports and empowers survivors of relationship and sexual violence.

Additionally, SARC’s outreach program, the Violence Prevention Project, is dedicated to breaking the silence of relationship and sexual violence and educating the campus community about healthy relationships.

SARC’s goals are to:

  • Provide free and confidential support, advocacy and crisis counseling to survivors of recent or past relationship and sexual violence and their partners, friends or relatives.
  • Empower survivors. SARC endeavors to restore personal power and dignity to survivors of relationship and sexual violence by providing support, information, options, and decision-making opportunities during crisis and recovery.
  • Provide on-going training and education for the campus community. The SARC Violence Prevention Project seeks to address the roots of violence, dispel myths that can perpetuate violence and prevent people from seeking help, and educate the community on healthy relationships based on mutual respect.
  • Reduce and remove all potential barriers to access SARC, including physical, psychological, and cultural barriers. SARC strives to be accessible, available, and safe for the entire UM community without bias, prejudice or preference.
