Sign Language Interpreters

The role of the sign language interpreter is to facilitate communication between signed and spoken languages. American Sign Language is a spacial-gestural language with grammar and syntax unlike English. Interpreters sign everything that is spoken and voice everything that is signed.

Who are Disability Services interpreters

  • All of our interpreters are certified through the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID).
  • Interpreters follow the RID's code of Professional Conduct: keeping all information confidential, transmitting the message faithfully, conveying the content and spirit of the speaker and shall not counsel, advise or interject personal opinions.
