Interpreters and captioning services

Disability Services provides sign language interpreting, real-time captioning (C-Print) services, and Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) for eligible students who are Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing that are registered with Disability Services.

Do not make requests directly to interpreters. The requests should go to the Lead Sign Language Interpreter for coordination.

Service Priority

Interpreting or captioning requests are prioritized as follows: 

  • Academic - This includes classes, field trips, study groups, events that are required for classes, meetings with instructors or academic advisors, tutorials.
  • Non-Academic or Extra Curricular students’ activities - This includes club meetings, concerts, performing arts, workshops, and campus events such as lectures and conferences.
  • Campus Events sponsored by the university, colleges, or departments including University address, guest lecturers, recognition ceremonies, celebrations, conferences.

How to request services for classes

For the first time request:

  • Make an intake appointment with a Coordinator and Lead Sign Language Interpreter.
  • Complete the initial appointment. During this meeting, we will discuss options, policies and procedures, and students’ responsibilities.
  • Provide your class schedule in advance to your Coordinator and Lead Sign Language Interpreter.

For students who previously requested services:

  • Provide your class schedule in advance to your Coordinator and Lead Sign Language Interpreter.
