April 19 (SAT) – EARTH SERVICE DAY  & UM's ABER DAY    

  All Friends of the Earth are invited to help with any of these Earth service events

       or do them ALL in the ECOPENTATHALON (scroll down)!

   10am -noon – Annual Clark Fork River Clean Up, sponsored by Clark Fork Coalition & REI.
       Meet at Caras Park at 10 am. To join UM Env. Action Community team, find belinda.hays AT umontana.edu

      To share in the BBQ from noon to 2pm, register by April 6 with 

      Clark Fork Coalition 542-0539 or with UM's Office of Civic Engagement -- Lauren at 243-5531.

      Clean & sorted glass accepted for recycling at Caras Park from 10am to 3pm.

      Steel, aluminum, plastic & paper also accepted by Pacific Steel & Missoula Valley Recycling.

   10am-1pm – Mt Sentinel Prairie Restoration (pull weeds & spread native seeds).

                     Meet at Mt Sentinel trailhead at 10 am or walk up the trail to the weed pullers & trash bags.

   Noon – Earth Service workers fed at the BBQ at Caras Park (see registration above)

   1-2:30pm – 'Dumpster Dive’ – sort recyclables at UM Recycle Shed at back of UM Facility Services or

                        'Physical Plant' which is in the NE corner of campus, between stadium & MT Sentinel. MAP.

   12-4pm – Build a Bike at Festival of Cycles in Bonner Park (Free Cycles/MIST). info: 880-6834.

   2-5pm – PEAS Farm chores on Duncan Drive in the Rattlesnake Valley (making compost, so dress for dirt & mud).

  ECOPENTATHALONDO ALL OF THE ABOVE!

Bear riding a bicycleEcopentathletes ride their bikes from event to event working about an hour at each.
You need a bike & helmet, (UM students can borrow from UM), water bottle, work gloves.
Free t-shirts while supplies last. Meet at 9 am at Kim Williams Trail by Van Buren Bridge.

Plan: River cleanup: 9-10:30am; Mt Sentinel weeding:10:30-noon. Lunch at noon.

     dumpster dive: 1-2:30pm. Festival of Cycles or PEAS farm from 3-5pm.

  EARTH SERVICE DAY DANCE-- 7:30-11pm; location: Union Hall, 208 E. Main, upstairs.

              MFS hosts this easy-to-learn country folk dance; no experience or partner needed. Live music.

             $8 for public; $6 for Earth Service workers; children under 14 free.

              & BEST DAM PARTY --Clark Fork Coalition hosts celebration of removal of Milltown Dam.

              WHEN: 7-10pm; WHERE: Caras Park. Free live music. Food & drink available for purchase.

  APRIL 20 (SUNDAY)     EARTH CELEBRATION

          Celebrate the Earth & its friends at Caras Park in Missoula. WHEN: noon-7pm;

          WHAT: local food/drink, art, live music, displays & demos of sustainable living & businesses,

          green car show, glass crusher, kids activities, including Recycling Olympics. Free to all.

          Bring your own cup to reduce waste. Clean & sorted glass accepted for recycling 10am-3pm.

         UM Dumpster Dive -- dive into campus dumpsters, pull out recyclables and make art with the rest.

APRIL 21 (Monday) University Dining Services begins 2 Earth Friendly initiatives --

              Trayless serving at the Food Zoo to reduce waste & re-usable shopping bags at Cascade Country Store.

        UM Campus -- Speakers & Films; Demos in the UC; no power tools used on campus (quiet)

                        University Dining Services offers Feasts of Local Foods (Lunch & dinner) at the Food Zoo

                        Dining Services also offers prizes for Recycling Art --  see  www.umt.edu/uds

        Special screenings of International Wildlife Film Festival winners for UM (need Grizcard & $4).

               WHERE: UC Theater; WHEN 8am to 11pm.   Also on April 26 from 12:30-6pm.

       Visit Milltown Superfund Cleanup Site with EPA:
                Meet at the bluff overlook at noon. Russ Forba, site manager for EPA, will explain cleanup activities.

   APRIL 23 (Wednesday)

               Green Vehicle Conversion Seminars --FREE . WHEN: 3-4pm; 4-5pm and 5-6pm.

    April 24-25   Clark Fork Watershed Festival. All Missoula 6th graders converge on McCormick Park

                      to learn about watersheds. To HELP contact WEN or Montana Natural History Center.

    April 25 (Fri) -- WEED THE RIVER TRAIL near UM with Washington Middle School Students.

                            Adult partners needed to help Washington students get this done.

    April 26 (Sat) E-rase your E-Waste -- Don't send your old electronics to the landfill;

                                                                  protect our drinking water by recycling your e-waste.

                         WHERE: Missoula Fairgrounds. WHEN: 9 am to 2 pm.

                         COST: First five electronic items free, additional items $1.00 each,

                             (all cell phones, rechargeable batteries, and computer peripherals are free).  

                             Ten items or more, call 800-433-8773 to register.

   April 26 (Sat)    Weed pull and native planting on Rattlesnake Creek,

                             WHEN: 9 am 5 pm, Bugbee Nature Area, off Missoula Ave.
