ELI Application

How can I apply to ELI?

• Complete an ELI Student Application.
  • read and sign the financial section and include an original, current financial statement from your bank or sponsor for at least $18,000;
  • send a nonrefundable $30 application fee made payable to English Language Institute;
  • include a copy of your passport.
• Complete and send a Residence Hall Application and a $220 nonrefundable residence hall deposit made payable to The University of Montana. Please see Residence Life page for more details. If you have questions about housing, please contact rtucker@mso.umt.edu.

To start the process your application can be sent by email or fax. However, the original documents are required for final acceptance.

Priority Processing Deadline for your application is two months before the start of the semester. Students who apply after this deadline may be accepted on a space available basis or in some cases for a future semester.

What's next?

1. The ELI will issue your form I-20 (which you will use to get your visa) as soon as we have received ALL of your forms and fees.
2. Once you receive your I-20 form, pay the SEVIS fee online. You will receive instructions on how to do this.
3. Contact the Consulate Office near you and make an appointment for a student visa interview. They will inform you what you will need to bring with you to the interview.
4. After you receive your student visa, confirm your housing assignment and notify the ELI.
5. Visit your doctor to complete the Medical History Form and send it to the ELI.
6. Contact the ELI with your arrival information.

How can I apply to The University of Montana?

For students interested in continuing at The University of Montana after completing ELI:

Students who are academically qualified can be Conditionally Admitted to The University of Montana even if they do not meet the English Language Proficiency requirement (i.e., TOEFL score). The Priority Processing Deadline for Conditional Admission is two months before the start of the semester.  Students who apply after the Priority Processing Deadline may be accepted on a space available basis. However, in some cases, you may be accepted for a future semester.

All students admitted conditionally will be required to attend the English Language Institute until they achieve one of the following: a TOEFL score (500 Paper-based TOEFL /173 Computer-based TOEFL/61 Internet-based TOEFL) or an ELI Recommendation.
