for a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) award.
Montana is
expanding its investment in the research enterprise by aiding inventors
and entrepreneurs to become more competitive for federal SBIR awards.
Two programs, run collectively by UM’s NSF EPSCoR director
and technology transfer director and the state SBIR program manager,
propose to builds stronger applications in science and technology
(S&T) through better promotion of SBIR award writing, increased
faculty involvement and investment in company infrastructure.
There
are two SBIR award programs available:
SBIR Phase 0
Faculty -- Small Business Transition
| Small
Business Innovation Research Program’s SBIR Phase 0 Competitions
are run by the State of Montana’s Department of Commerce.

- Proposals
are welcomed from all SBIR eligible university faculty or businesses
in Montana.
- It is to
be noted that virtually all federal SBIR awards are made to those
who have devised projects, which will lead to novel or improved
products or services.
- The goal
of the SBIR programs is to nurture more awards to small businesses
throughout Montana.
- Awardees
for both SBIR programs must submit financial and program progress
reports each year.
- Both SBIR
programs require a full report, complete with photos, upon completion
of the award period.

At anytime during the award period, UM NSF EPSCoR or the State
SBIR Office may request a financial or programmatic report, if
deemed necessary.
- Complete

Non-compliance,
failure to respond or providing insufficient or false responses
within 30 days of project completion, may result in suspension of
all future UM NSF EPSCoR funding for the awardee and host department
or center.
