The Undergraduate
Research Program gives research assistantship awards of $1,000-$1,500
to undergraduates participating in research or scholarly activity
that furthers their declared educational goals. For the purpose
of awards, “research or scholarly activity” may also
include examination of a cultural or historical question, documentary
or production arts as well as laboratory or field research more
normally associated with the science disciplines. This competition
is open year round to all undergraduate students in good academic
standing (see note). Applicants co-apply with a faculty mentor and
must have successfully completed their freshman year. All University
of Montana undergraduates are eligible.
UM is committed
to progressive education and outreach efforts. These resources will
be used to encourage undergraduate participation in research activities.
NSF EPSCoR support for participation of Montana undergraduates in
research has been highly successful and we propose to continue this
program throughout the 2004-2007 grant.
New information, posted Feb. 2, 2007, regarding guidelines and application is AVAILABLE HERE

NOTE:
Tribal colleges, high school seniors and currently enrolled post-baccalaureates
may also apply, although awards are contingent upon funding and
the number of undergraduates currently awarded.
