New Business- Subcommittee consent agendas

Ethics Subcommittee
The Ethics Subcommittee Chair Derry reported that only three of the subcommittee members responded to the review and asked the committee whether this was sufficient. The committee agreed it was and proceeded with presentation.  Three of the five one-time only ethics designations submitted by Practical Ethics, as well as the Geology and Writing Studies courses were approved for inclusion on the consent agenda to be presented to the Faculty Senate.  Action on the following courses was postponed.

PHIL/LS 495

Has been taught three times and should be submitted for a new course. One third of in-class time is devoted to watching the films.

PHIL/EVST495

A justification of how the course meets the ethics criteria is required.

Science Subcommittee

Classics options program revision

The increase in credits was minor in two of the options.  However the Latin option credits increased from 44 to 59.  This was of concern considering the BOR policy that indicates “Majors may range from 30 to 48 semester hours, half of which must be at the upper-division level. ….The extended major may require up to 80 hours.” The committee requested clarification on this issue.
