Chair Szalda-Petree called the meeting to order at 2:10 p.m.
The minutes from 4/3 and 4/10 were approved as amended.
Communications:
Chair Szalda-Petree updated ASCRC on how the general education model was
received at the Faculty Senate meeting. There was very little time for
discussion. Several senators were
uncomfortable moving ahead with a vote in May considering that department
chairs just received the model last week.
There was resource concerns specifically related to the lower-division
writing requirement. He has also received email correspondence in opposition to
foreign language courses meeting the diversity requirement. It was asked whether the model could be
amended on the floor and this is a possibility under Robert’s Rules the body
could also commit the item to committee and send it back to ASCRC. It was
suggested the representatives from the Writing Committee be at the May Faculty
Senate meeting.
Business Items:
The Literary and Artistic Studies Review Committee received follow-up on
several courses and those were approved for continuation of the perspective.

The committee still has not received any forms for several liberal studies courses. The department chair will be given until next Monday to comply or the courses will loose the designation.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:40 p.m.
