The minutes from 8/28 were amended and approved.
Communications:
· The revised general education model was sent to all faculty, ASUM and the administration on August 31, 2007. It will be discussed at the 9/13/07 Faculty Senate meeting and hopefully voted on at the 10/11/07 meeting.
· Subcommittee chairs should verify the subcommittee membership and find new members as appropriate.
· A committee member is still needed from the social sciences.
Business Items:
Certificate Guidelines
·
The committee discussed the proposed
guidelines. Tully Thibeau, Director of
English as a Second Language (ESL) is in favor of the guidelines. The addition of a minimum grade requirement and
inclusion in program review will strengthen the ESL program. It was clarified that a license to teach is
different than a certificate. The
certificate is helpful for potential employment abroad. In the
There is some concern that students are misinformed about the meaning of some
certificates.
Directors of
Nursing Courses
· The Board of Nursing had an issue with the course numbers (Practical Nursing should be 100 level and Registered Nursing should be 200 level) at an accreditation visit last spring. The changes must be implemented by the October 15th Board of Nursing meeting in order for the program to retain accreditation. At that time notice will be sent to all accepted students and the online catalog will be updated. The Forestry, Pharmacy and Health Science Curriculum Subcommittee will be activated early to review the proposals.
Other pending items
·
The inconsistencies found in last year’s review
of perspective 1 and 2 will not be considered because of the pending changes to
the general education program that will require a review of all courses. ASCRC
will wait for guidance from ECOS with regards to the Repeat Fee, Advanced
Placement and the International Baccalaureate
The meeting was adjourned at 3:30 p.m.
