Please describe your experience on the committee (What information would you share with a faculty member who is considering service on this committee?)

I have learned a lot concerning the rights of students. First is the difference between the physical body and brain. the physical body may be broken but t he brain is not. The equally of representation of colleges and programs on the committee is lacking. I understand why people are not interested, but they should be. There have been a number of inequalities that my hurt the university is general. These have been addressed at the local level, thus reducing the publicity that may have been damaging.

The committee brings many different segments of the university together, thus finding many common problems and successes.

Topics Addressed (agenda items)¯

Access to buildings

Access to rest room

Access to classrooms

safety of students moving around campus

Actions Taken (resolutions, proposals, recommendations)¯

You would have to talk to Barb Seekins as to the exact resolution to many of these items above. The time to resolve some of the situation is much longer than one year.

Unresolved Issues ¯

Each student who is handicapped has special needs. As students come and go from the university the needs and requirements change.
