The committee’s charge is “to provide review and counsel for the Intercollegiate Athletic Program.” The committee’s yearly agenda is based on both emerging issues and items the NCAA expects the committee to take up.
For AY 06-07 the committee will meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 2:00 p.m., in the Gallagher Business Building. The first meeting for AY 06-07 will be Tuesday, September 19, 2006. The new chair is Beverly Brooks, College of Technology.
Due to schedules, this year the committee met less than once a month. The following topics were reviewed during the year: facilities update and future planning; current exit interview procedures and findings from last year (exit interviews are of graduating student athletes); NCAA rules-violations report covering the past 12 months; student-athletes’ retention and graduation rates; minority student-athlete’s graduation rate; academic advising of student-athletes (Laura Hickey presented); procedures and monitoring of scholarships for student-athletes on campus, including book scholarships; budget and other financial affairs of the department (Lance Allen presented).
Professor Jim Lopach is the UM’s Faculty Athletics Representative and will address the
Faculty Senate in the fall.
