Please describe your experience on the committee (What information would you share with a faculty member who is considering service on this committee?)

Pleasant committee, most of activity in spring. One to two meetings and commencement ceremony

Serve as a marshal

One big meeting takes place usually in February.  The agenda centers on the structure of the Commencement.  Most of it is nuts and bolts.  Occasionally, an issue will surface, e.g., recommendations for commencement speaker.  Most things have to do with the ceremony, e.g, should the faculty enter single file or in pairs, etc.

The committee is a fairly easy service assignment.  The only difficult thing for me was finding enough faculty to participate in the actual duties on commencement day.  I work in the business school and don’t know very many other faculty across campus.  I need 12 people for the professional schools’ ceremony and it’s difficult to find 12 volunteers just in my school.

Unresolved Issues ¯

We could use some “greeter” or “may I help you” ribbons.  There are only 3 or 4 left and they look really raggedy!
