Please describe your experience on the committee (What information would you share with a faculty member who is considering service on this committee?)

We met twice. No request for input, basically this is the way it is. Information was virtually all past tense.

Charge of the Committee:
To act as a liaison between the campus community and Inter-Unit Benefits Committee relative to: benefits provided employees and family members through the Montana University System self-funded health insurance program; the plan design; the funding of the plan; and participants' problems and issues relating to the plan.

Topics Addressed (agenda items)¯

Cost of insurance. Different programs (HMO PRIVATE Insurance).

We are in good shape overall.

Limits on lifetime benefits ($2million/insuree, more for a family). Assurances that these caps were within the “normal guidelines” of similar programs in our “comparison states”.

A push for a service from TIAA/CREF that decides what distribution is appropriate for you age and situation, FOR A PRICE.

Actions Taken (resolutions, proposals, recommendations)¯

As far as I know, no votes were taken. We were INFORMED of events.

Unresolved Issues ¯

Since insurance is neither a union issue nor a Senate issue, there isn’t a damn thing we can do

Meetings are informational, not collaborative.
