Please describe your experience on the committee (What information would you share with a faculty member who is considering service on this committee?)

Meetings are very focused, and generally last no more than an hour. There is reading of appeals outside of the meetings. At first that takes quite a while, but once you know the information being provided it is possible to read 10 appeals in a couple of hours. It is valuable as a faculty member to understand the financial aid process, for student advising sessions.

Topics Addressed (agenda items)¯

Generally just a review of the appeals presented. Sometimes a report from Mick Hansen about academic progress. We recently drafted a letter to Faculty Senate about students who have many withdrawals, to solicit the input of the Senate.

Actions Taken (resolutions, proposals, recommendations)¯

Mostly either grant or deny an extension of Financial Aid. Sometimes table the request, pending further requested information.
