Please describe your experience on the committee (What information would you share with a faculty member who is considering service on this committee?)

This committee primarily reviews applications for extension of federal financial aid beyond the recommended credit level. It’s a committee that directly affects the lives of students, particularly those who have changed majors frequently, transferred schools frequently, or had serious emotional, physical, or life-changing problems. It is both a very rewarding committee because of the opportunity to provide guidance to some struggling students enabling them to finally graduate and a very discouraging committee because we tend to see applications from students who are at the lowest level of academic achievement.

Topics Addressed (agenda items)¯

Besides reviewing the applications, we frequently see evidence of and discuss the problems with advising students on this campus.

Actions Taken (resolutions, proposals, recommendations)¯

Decisions on the applications

Unresolved Issues ¯

The advising problems and an outstanding question regarding the number of students approved for extended financial aid who actually graduate on the proposed schedule they have presented us.
