(Names are taken from web site; due to no full-group meetings, see details below, I am not 100% sure this is an accurate list.)

Please describe your experience on the committee (What information would you share with a faculty member who is considering service on this committee?)

My experience with the committee was generally good. We did not have any cases during the year; all of our work together was in training. Surprisingly, we never met all together as a group; we met for trainings and since some members had been trained the previous year, they did not attend these sessions. I think it would be good to have a beginning of the year all-committee meeting so everyone has at least met each other in the event that there is a case and we are called to all work together.

My main concern/complaint was in communication. I was told I was on the committee in May and that someone would contact me, and no one did. In October I contacted who I thought was the chair, Dan Doyle (at the time listed on the webpage), only to find out that person, much to his surprise, was no longer the chair (he didn’t realize his 2-year term was up). Overall, there was confusion in the beginning about who was on the committee and who should be contacting whom. Charles Couture did all the organizing and overseeing of the committee, yet his name is nowhere on the committee list - http://www.umt.edu/committees/university_court.htm - which is a problem.

Topics Addressed (agenda items)¯

University Court procedures, training related to issues that might arise in a case before the Court provided by the following individuals:

- David Aronofsky, University Legal Counsel

- Mike Frost, Self Over Substances Coordinator

- Kate Pruitt, Student Assault Resource Center Coordinator

Actions Taken (resolutions, proposals, recommendations)¯

There was discussion of changing the policy that the Chair must be a faculty member, opening it up to students or staff: Scott Gauthier drafted a resolution he was going to submit to ASUM, the committee looked at a rough draft, but it didn’t (yet) move forward.

Unresolved Issues ¯
