Chair Weix called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m.

The minutes from 10/14/08 and 10/21/08 were approved.

Communication

The Faculty Learning Outcome Councils have finalized common course numbering and outcomes for Economics and Writing. ASCRC was provided with the matrix.

The catalog will include the previous number and cyberbear will have a crosslist.

Director Broberg addressed concerns related to the permanent courses associated with the Landscape and Livelihood field semester. The students live off campus in the Swan Valley and are exposed to an experiential environment. The courses are offered through Continuing Education and taught by Northwest Connections. EVST faculty supervise the instructors and review the syllabi to assure the courses meet the educational goals of the department. EVST only has five tenure-track faculty and 200 majors. Northwest Connections helps the program extend course offerings. The Program is mindful that students need to be exposed to tenure tract faculty and is considering catalog language to place a limit on the courses that can satisfy the upper-division electives requirement.

The department will submit alternative course numbers to the bag numbers. The following revisions were received via email.

The Subcommittee will consider the additional information and make a recommendation to ASCRC at the November 18^th meeting.

The summary items below were approved. Follow-up is required for ART 335.
Withdrawal Policy
The committee discussed ECOS' suggestion to change the electronic add deadline to the tenth day and the drop deadline by forms to the 8^th week. It unanimously approved separating the electronic add/drop date so that the deadline for adding courses electronically is the tenth day and the fifteenth day to electronically drop a course. However, the committee compromised with ECOS' recommendation and unanimously approved the ninth week (45^th day) to drop courses by forms with signature approval.
Grade Point Average Calculation Policy
It might be helpful to know the history of the trend for institutions to move away from averaging grades to accepting the last grade earned in the grade point average. Professor MacDonald will look through back issues of the Chronicle of Higher Education.

The committee will vote on the issue at the November 18^th meeting. ASCRC will provide a report to the Senate with the background information. The Senate will debate the issue and make the final decision.
