Communication:

The next meeting of the committee will be March 9th from 9:00-10:30 AM.

Old Business:

Follow-up writing review

Over winter break it was discovered that PSC 300, a one credit writing assignment added to another PSC course, was not reviewed.  The committee had questions about the function and outcome of this course.  The professor will be asked for additional information and invited to the next meeting if necessary.

New Business:

Updates from the Writing Center

Nancy Mattina director of the Writing Center provided members with an Overview of the Writing Center Activities document and elaborated on some of the items. The Center tracks various data related to its activities. (See updates from Writing Center.)

It was commented that the title of the Upper Division Writing Proficiency Assessment (UDWPA) should be changed so that students don’t consider the assessment a senior requirement exit exam.  The upper-division designation was used to distinguish the exam from general education. The committee should consider this issue in more detail.

UDWP Appeals Process Protocol

The workgroup met and developed a process for appeals to the UDWPA.   This will be disseminated electronically to members.

Discussion on writing

The committee ran out of time to address the homework questions.  Professor Ryan disseminated the new Outcomes Statement for Composition 101 (ENEX 101).  She will make a presentation at the next meeting on the composition programs ideas for the writing program.  The committee will also consider the Provost’s Writing Committee’s proposed writing criteria.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:05AM.
