ASCRC Writing Subcommittee Notes 10/25/07

Chair Carter called the meeting to order at 1:35 p.m.

Writing Course Review
Members assigned to each course commented on the review. All items were approved. There was some discussion about BIOL 195 Science Writing. The course is 100% writing and seems to be more about teaching scientist to write for the general public than about science content. It was suggested that the Composition Director and the Instructor discuss the course.

HHP 372	Rehabilitation of Athletic Injuries	Add writing designation
HHP 340	Practicum in Athletics Training 1	Remove writing designation
JOUR 295	Reporting Across the Media	Experimental Writing Course (One-time-only writing designation)
WBIO 408	Advanced Fisheries Science	Upper-division writing requirement
Program Modification	Include ENEX 200 as a third option for WBIO majors for their writing course requirement

Writing Course Guidelines Document
Professor Edwards distributed suggested revisions to address information literacy. Criteria and learning outcomes still need to be added for Composition. Camie will compile the revisions and send it to the committee to consider for the next meeting. Chair Carter will draft a sample communication to departments to discuss as well.

The next meeting will be November 15^th at 1:10 in GBB 201.
