Research on Flathead Lake
Jack Stanford, director of UM's Flathead Lake Biological Station, approaches one of the station's instrumented buoys to collect research data. The buoys collect continuous, automated measurements of water quality in the water column and meteorological conditions on the lake. Bird Banding
UM researcher Heiko Langer removes one of three baby osprey for banding from a nest located west of Missoula. The Osprey Project is a long-term study of osprey ecology and heavy metal contamination in Montana's upper Clark Fork River and its tributaries. UM student Joseph McMahon took first place in the 24th annual John Ruffatto Business Plan Competition held last month at the University of Montana. McMahon created a mobile app called Magnet, which allows users to broadcast their availability to their friends, and to view their friends’ availability.

Sounds of Rivers: Stone Drum
University of Montana students and faculty collaborated across disciplines to create a multimedia piece featuring narration, computer music, dance and animation that artistically translates how the sounds of the rivers influence waterway ecosystems. “Sounds of Rivers: Stone Drum” will be showcased in the annual UM “Dance in Concert” production, which also features other performances by UM students and faculty. Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, May 8-11.
