FAQ Answers

1

What types of programs does the Station offer for local citizens? for students? for researchers? Back to Top

The Flathead Lake Biological Station offers a variety of informative lectures, seminars, workshops, and courses. Most of these offerings occur in the late Spring, Summer, and early Fall.

For local citizens, the Flathead Lake Biological Station offers a Thursday night summer seminar series that brings specialized speakers from a variety of subject areas to share their knowledge and ideas. We also offer an annual open house providing an opportunity to tour the station grounds and learn about the science that helps protect many local lakes and riparian areas. We also offer a variety of workshops and seminars throughout the year. Check this site periodically for updated information on these offerings.

For local teachers, we encourage local ecology and advanced biology teachers to contact us for information on how your classes can benefit from field trips to the Station.

For college students, we offer both M.S. and PhD. degree options and an annual summer session with aquatic and terrestrial ecology courses, including a new Field Ecology option. The FLBS summer session is open to both graduate and undergraduate students.

For scientists and researchers, we offer a number of research opportunities. Investigators from around the world come to the Station to spend one week to two years working on projects, learning from and sharing knowledge with our research faculty.

For more information on any of the options above, please contact us.

Where are you located? Do you offer transportation? Back to SS ?'s

We are located on the east side of Flathead Lake off of Highway 35 at Yellow Bay, approximately halfway between Bigfork and Polson. Many students drive their own vehicles to the Station. If you want riders or if you need a ride, contact the Bio Station for names of other students in your area or along your travel route. Airline service is available to Kalispell (Glacier Park International Airport) or Missoula (Missoula International Airport). Also, there is a bus from Missoula to Polson.

For those students beginning courses on June 14: If you notify us prior to June 11 of your arrival time, FLBS can schedule a shuttle to pick you up on June 13 in either Polson or Kalispell. Please remember to verbally confirm your arrival time and pickup time with the Bio Station.

For all other students: You may call Kalispell Taxi & Airport Shuttle (406) 752-4022) for transportation from Kalispell to the Flathead Lake Biological Station (approx. cost $65.00).

Numerous enrollment options are available throughout the 8-week session.
