Thesis project:

Cenozoic Sedimentary Basin Evolution and Hydrostratigraphic Assessment of the Gold Creek Basin, Western Montana: Mapping the Rock Creek Lake 7.5’ USGS Quadrangle

I am privileged to work on an EDMAP funded project between Missoula and Butte, MT, creating a 1:24,000 scale geologic map of the Rock Creek Lake Quad.  My project includes producing baseline geologic information for community planners and addressing questions such as:  What Tertiary facies characterize the margins of the Gold Creek Basin?  What is the nature of Quaternary glacial and glacially-related facies in the RCL quad?  What structural configuration characterizes the intersection of the Deer Lodge Valley with the Lewis and Clark Lineament?

Hobbies (optional)

I grew up in a log cabin that my dad built in central Virginia, one of five McRaven kids.  Lured by bigger mountains and wider spaces, I moved “out west” after college.  I’ve met some pretty amazing people and lived in some amazing towns the past few years: Sequim, WA, Bend, OR, Bellingham, WA and now Missoula, MT!  I love being outside hiking, rock hounding, road biking, and exploring.  Since undergrad, I’ve worked as a Trail Crew Leader, Geologist, Volunteer Reading Tutor for AmeriCorps, private Math Tutor, and Instructor for Komo Kulshan Outdoor School.  I truly enjoy sharing my love for Earth Science with youth and look forward to when I can get back into Outdoor Education!

In 2002 I met a fellow geologist at the University of Wyoming’s Geology Summer Field Camp.  About 4 years later, Dennis Feeney and I got married and are now tramping around the country, both getting our Masters, doing well and enjoying life!
