Dr. James Sears

Thesis project:

I will be mapping the internal stratigraphy of the Two Medicine Formation in an attempt to document the continuation of the Rocky Mountain Foothills Triangle Zone (RMFTZ) of Alberta, Canada into west-central Montana. The Canadian Rocky Mountain Foothills Triangle Zone, a highly productive hydrocarbon reservoir, is a passive-roof duplex structure formed at the eastern margin of the North American fold-thrust belt.   If the RMFTZ is continuous from Canada south into Montana it could lead to the development of newly discovered hydrocarbon reservoirs.

Looking west at the Rocky Mountain Front in my study area.

An example of structural features found in the Two Medicine Formation.   By mapping these features I hope to locate the triangle zone in west-central Montana.
