Thesis project:
My thesis involves the study of englacial and subglacial hydrology at the Bench Glacier, Alaska via dye tracer experiments. More specifically, I am studying the subglacial channel system and connectivity, as well as the connectivity among englacial conduits within the Bench Glacier. The goal of the study is to provide a better understanding of the mechanics of flow within glaciers and the connection between englacial water flow and glacier sliding rates. This has a broader environmental importance in that increased melting of glaciers and their sliding rates play a role in such issues as global sea level rise.
