Passport to Leadership

Once you join the program, these are the commitments the University makes to you!

Freshmen Seminars

During your first year of study, you will enroll in a seminar focused on new and enduring Global Questions taught by UM faculty recognized for their scholarly work and teaching excellence. These seminars will also allow you to focus on a general education path that will widen and deepen your exploration of the issues raised by the seminar.

Presidential Lectures

Fellows also will attend the Presidential Lecture Series, getting an opportunity to participate in structured discussions with national and international figures who are experts in their fields and involved in seeking answers to global questions.

Models of Leadership

Each year, national and international leaders from a wide range of areas will be brought to one of the University’s off-campus properties, such as the Lubrecht Forest, for intensive weekends to discuss with you and your cohorts approaches and experiences necessary for meeting challenges posed in the global century.

Beyond the Classroom

Whether your work is done here or abroad the University will provide each fellow with funding for a U.S. Passport and the opportunity to apply for funding to cover travel and research expenses as you pursue study abroad, internships, creative scholarship, research or service learning.

Collaboration Brought to Fruition—The Capstone Project

In small groups, you will address crucial issues affecting the world community, through interdisciplinary, culminating capstone projects fashioned by you.

Certification

At the culmination of the Global Leadership Initiative, successful Fellows will be awarded a Certificate of Completion at graduation.
