portraitJosh Benham is a junior majoring in print journalism and history. A native of Rapid City, SD, he bounced around between colleges until finding a home in Missoula.  When not covering this trial, his favorite things are skiing, hiking and camping, being with friends, hearing good music and enjoying any product from the local breweries.

Maggie Braun is a second year law student at the University of Montana School of Law. She grew up in Butte, Montana, and Superfund sites are near and dear to her heart. She graduated from Gonzaga University with degrees in French and Political Science.

Beth Brennan teaches legal writing at the University of Montana School of Law. After practicing personal injury and environmental law in Missoula for eight years, she spent a year as a law clerk for U.S. District Judge Donald W. Molloy (yes, the same one).  In her three years at the law school, she has taught torts and appellate advocacy as well as legal analysis and writing.

portraitKelsey Bernius is wrapping up her studies as a print journalism student at the University of Montana this spring.  A Missoula native, she has interned at  The Indy and reported for the Montana Kaimin. She has recently discovered a passion for covering arts and politics. When not waiting for sources to call her back, she can be found running the hills of Missoula, drinking espresso at Butterfly Herbs or enjoying a pint of Coldsmoke at the Kettle House.

Bert Certain is a second year law student at the University of Montana School of Law. He is originally from Miles City, Montana. Bert graduated from Montana State University, Bozeman, with a bachelor’s degree in architecture. After graduation he hopes to pursue a career in criminal law.

portraitChris D’Angelo is a senior in print journalism at The University of Montana. Originally from St. Louis, Mo., he moved to Montana in 2005 to escape the flatness of the Midwest and pursue his passion for writing. He recently completed an internship at the Missoula Independent, Montana’s largest weekly newspaper, and is scheduled to graduate this May. Chris enjoys good music, close friends and being in the mountains.

portraitElizabeth Diehl is a junior in print journalism at The University of Montana. She also enjoys photography and multimedia journalism. When Elizabeth is not doing homework she enjoys hiking, fishing, and attending yoga class. She is expected to graduate in May 2010.

Michael Doggett is a second year law student at the University of Montana. Originally from Helena, Montana, Michael graduated with a B.A. in history at UM before attending law school. Michael is also one of the many resident amateur webmasters who have helped to work out the design of this site.

Daniel Doherty, a junior in photojournalism at the University of Montana, is originally from New Jersey. A life-long photgrapher, Dan applies his experience in the fields of politics, web design, and visual arts to his work as a student journalist. He anticipates graduation in May of 2010.

Carly Flandro is a junior studying print journalism and Spanish at the University of Montana. Carly has been an intern at the Idaho State Journal and the Missoulian, and she has also reported for the Montana Kaimin. She will graduate from UM next spring.

Shannon Foley is a third year law student at The University of Montana School of Law. Shannon is originally from Billings and graduated from Montana State University, Bozeman, with a B.A. in English Literature and a B.A. in Spanish. After graduation she wishes to pursue criminal prosecution and/or international law.

Katy Furlong is from Missoula, and is a second year law student at the University of Montana. She received a Master’s Degree in Psychology from MSU-Billings and a B.S. in Psychology from Rocky Mountain College prior to attending law school.

portraitCarmen George is a junior in print journalism with a minor in philosophy at the University of Montana. She is a reporter for the Montana Kaimin, UM’s student-run daily newspaper. Carmen is from Coarsegold, California; a small town near Yosemite National Park. She freelanced for the Sierra Star newspaper this summer, and was the editor for Yosemite High School’s Blue Print newspaper from 2005-2006.

portraitWill Grant is a graduate student in print journalism at the University of Montana. He received a bachelor’s degree in natural resources from Sewanee, the University of the South in 2002. After running a ranch and horse training operation for the last five years, he made the smart decision to return to school. He is from Littleton, Colo.

Janet Harrison, a second year law student at the University of Montana School of Law, is from Missoula, Montana. Janet received a B.A. in Biological Sciences from the University of Denver in 1987 and a Graduate Certificate in Computer Science from the University of Denver in 1991. She spent 10 years as a software engineer before moving to Missoula and starting a family. She hopes to use her law degree to address issues such as land use, planning and development in western Montana.

Noelle Harrison is a second year law student at the University of Montana. She spent the first eleven years of her life in southern California, and then moved to Lewistown, Montana, where her parents still reside today. She received a Bachelor’s of Art in Music, piano, from Montana State University in Bozeman. She hopes to move to Livingston, Montana, upon graduation and practice transactional law, compose music, and fish with her guide Jordan.

portraitNate Hegyi is a senior photojournalism major at The University of Montana. Originally from Wisconsin, he came to Missoula to pursue the arts. Hegyi expects to graduate in May of 2008 and then take his band, Wartime Blues, on a two-week tour across the Western coast.

Andrew King-Ries is an assistant professor at the University of Montana School of Law.  A former prosecutor, he loves teaching courses in criminal law, criminal procedure, white collar crime, domestic violence, juvenile justice, evidence, and law & literature.  When he is not teaching, he and Kristin are on some adventure–real or imaginary–inspired by their nearly seven-year-old son Connor.

Mark Lancaster is a third year law student at The University of Montana School of Law. Mark is originally from Helena, MT, and graduated from Montana State University with a bachelor’s degree in business. Mark hopes to find a job in Montana after he takes the bar this summer.

portraitKyle Lehman grew up in Corbett, Ore., and followed his interest in writing to the University of Montana. A junior in print journalism with a Wilderness Studies Minor, Kyle enjoys climbing, biking, and attempting to telemark ski in the mountains around Montana.

Robert Lishman is a second year law student at the University of Montana School of Law. He is originally from Washington, DC. Robert received his B.A. in Environmental Studies from Carroll College in Helena, MT.

Nick Lofing is a second year law student at the University of Montana School of Law. Originally from the agricultural and mining community of Columbus, Mont., Nick completed a B.A. in English at Seattle University before beginning law school.

portraitLaura Lundquist is a graduate student in print journalism at the University of Montana. After growing up near Bozeman, Mont., she studied engineering, earning a B.S. from Boston University and an M.S. from the University of Colorado – Boulder. She was called to journalism after working for five years with a Missoula environmental consulting company.

Kirsten Madsen is a third year law student at The University of Montana School of Law and is originally from Helena, Mont. She received her B.A. in Political Science with an emphasis in Public Administration from Montana State University, Bozeman and is an avid Bobcat fan. After graduation Kirsten hopes to combine her passions for public interest law and appellate work.

Kathryn Mazurek is a second year law student at The University of Montana School of Law. Originally from Michigan, Mazurek graduated from UM with an undergraduate degree in Communication Studies with an emphasis in rhetoric and public discourse.

Paul Nicol is a second year law student at The University of Montana School of Law. Paul received his B.S. in Parks and Recreation Management from Northern Arizona University and worked as a Field Biologist for the Sierra Nevada Research Station and the Rocky Mountain Research Station before returning to school to pursue a law degree. He hopes to use his law degree to help improve public policy relating to environmental issues.

Christopher Orman is a second year law student at the University of Montana. After graduating from Cal State San Marcos with a degree in Literary Theory (and addled by the writings of Jacques Derrida) he became a pastry chef in North Miami for three years before deciding to attend law school. Christopher plans on specializing in environmental law and indigenous tribal law in Alaska after graduating.

rb8972kandtree.jpgKristine Paulsen is a Montana-based photographer who loves to tell stories. She received a Master’s Degree in Journalism with a Photojournalism option from the University of Montana School of Journalism in 2008 after completing a photo internship with the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. She received her BA from Carleton College in Northfield, Minn. The multi-media reporting project, Living With Grace, was her Master’s thesis.

Audrey Schultz is a 3L law student at The University of Montana School of Law. Originally from Billings, MT, she received her BA from Carleton College, the land of “cows, colleges, and contentment” in Northfield, Minnesota. She plans to move to Washington DC after graduation in May to pursue public service.

Hannah Stone is a second year law student at the University of Montana. Born in Libby, Montana, she and her family moved to California in the late 1980’s. After graduating from California State University, Northridge with a B.A. in Communication Studies, she returned to Montana to pursue a career in law.

Kalie Tenenbaum is a senior in print journalism at The University of Montana. After a year at Montana State University, Kalie transferred to UM’s School of Journalism to pursue her passion for writing and is scheduled to graduate this May.

portraitRyan Thompson is a senior in print journalism at the University of Montana. A proud Montana native, he grew up in Great Falls before moving to Missoula in 2005. Ryan has worked for the Kaimin and as an intern at the Daily Record in Ellensburg, Wash. Along with journalism, his passions are music and history. Ryan will graduate this spring.

portraitNadia White is an assistant professor at The University of Montana School of Journalism. Aside from helping direct the Grace Case project, she teaches courses in current events and public affairs reporting. She worked as a reporter and editor at The Casper (Wyo.) Star-Tribune, Boulder (Colo.) Daily Camera, Stillwater (Minn.) Evening Gazette and Lewiston (Maine) Sun. She is a graduate of Princeton High School, Bates College and The Journalism School at Columbia University.
