Creative Pulse
A Summer Graduate Program for Master Teachers in Arts and Humanities
Program Description
The Creative Pulse is an interdisciplinary, M.A. program for teachers, housed in the University of Montana’s College of Visual and Performing Arts. Offered for five weeks each summer, students may take the courses individually or may enroll in the full program and work toward a Masters of Arts in Fine Arts in Integrated Arts and Education over two summers. The Creative Pulse is primarily geared for teachers in the arts and humanities, but welcomes artists and teachers from across a vast spectrum.
The program provides coursework in residence for 5-weeks over two summers, with a Field Project conducted (off-campus) after the first summer, and a Final Creative Project/Professional Paper completed following the second summer. The rigorous five-week program immerses students in lectures, artistic practice, readings, and group projects.
The 36 credits program consists of ten, one-week, afternoon seminars, divided between two summer sessions. Morning studio apprenticeships, offered each week, compliment the more academic afternoon courses, and allow students a "hands-on" opportunity to work with practicing artists on additional areas of artistic expression. One of Creative Pulse’s goals is personal growth as educators, artists and human beings. Practicums offer individual work furthering students’ personal, teaching and artistic development. Following the second summer of coursework, Creative Pulse students complete a Final Creative Project (in lieu of a traditional master’s thesis) that culminates in a Final Paper.
