Each year, the UM SIGP steering committee will determine the number of master’s and doctoral SIGP scholarships awarded to Indigenous STEM graduate students (Native American, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian; U.S. citizenship) for the next academic year based on funding provided by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation for the year under consideration. Depending upon the need to balance the UM Sloan portfolio, the numbers of master’s and doctoral awards may vary. More than one combination of master’s plus doctoral fellowships may be considered at the discretion of the UM SIGP steering committee in accordance with the guidelines of the current award from the A.P. Sloan Foundation.
UM SIGP application deadlines will vary slightly from year-to-year depending upon changes in the university’s yearly academic calendar. The deadline for submitting a UM SIGP scholarship application for a Fall Semester start will be at the end of finals week, the preceding Spring Semester—please check announcements on the home page. On-time completed applications will be given first priority. Applications received after the announced deadline date will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and the UM SIGP steering committee and the UM SIGP selection committee reserve the right to defer late applications until the next funding cycle.
The UM SIGP selection committee reserves the right to consider late applications from highly qualified applicants who are considered “high probability of success scholars” (HPSS).
