The Graduate Student and Faculty Research Conference at The University of Montana is held each year in April. The ninth annual meeting will take place on Saturday, April 10, 2010 in the University Center. This conference brings together graduate students and faculty from a variety of disciplines to present their research. It offers graduate students an opportunity to gain valuable professional experience by presenting their work in a formal and intellectually supportive environment. It also fosters greater understanding among graduate students and faculty of the various disciplines’ approaches to and methods of research. Conference events include: concurrent sessions of oral presentations; poster session; complimentary lunch; interdisciplinary roundtable discussion; awards for the best student posters and oral presentations; closing reception.
Future Conference Dates:The 2009 meeting took place on April 11 on the third floor of the University Center. There were presentations by graduate students and faculty, a poster session, a luncheon, and an award ceremony/reception. The roundtable discussion was entitled From Sustainability to Restoration: A Multi-Disciplinary Discussion. The discussion focused on the area of sustainability and restoration, especially as it pertains to research in graduate studies. Moderator: Hiltrud Arens, Dept of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures. Panelists: John Maron, Division of Biological Sciences; Neva Hassanein, Dept of Environmental Studies; Nancy Cook, Dept of English Literature; S. Neyooxet Greymorning, Dept of Anthropology/Native American Studies.

Graduate students and faculty members may submit abstracts for either oral or poster presentations. Graduate student presentations may include a portion of a thesis or dissertation or a successful seminar or course paper. We welcome the presentation of talks or posters previously presented elsewhere. To address the interdisciplinary/cross-disciplinary goals of this conference, each poster or oral presentation must include the following brief introductory components directed towards helping those outside the discipline understand the work.
