ENERGY AUDITS

UM Facilities Services has teamed up with outside contractors, CTA Architects Engineers and McKinstry, to tackle energy efficiency and energy conservation head on-building audits! It's behind-the-scenes (or behind-the-walls) work in which the green glitz glamour can be easily overlooked. However, as UM's first GHG Inventory report concluded, it's those places-the ins and outs of building operations-that need the most attention.

On March 5 the “final” energy audit reports were delivered. Now Facilities and our contractors must go through each proposed project, and critically analyze it to make sure the potential savings are achieveable, and that the proposed solutions will actually work.

The 15 buildings that were included in the audit were:

4) PARTV
5) Skaggs (older section)
6) BioResearch Center
7) Art Annex/Grix Pool
8) Education
9) Social Sciences
10) Rankin Hall
11) University Center
12) Davidson Honors College
13) Student Recreation Center
14) Fine Arts
15) Anderson Hall

Projects that are identified as viable will proceed via a couple of different paths, and it is not yet finalized which path we will use.
