The UM Sustainable Campus Committee is pleased to announce that the recipient of the 2007 Greening UM Award is Environmental Studies Professor Vicki Watson.

The SCC chose Watson because of her long-standing and unequalled commitment and work toward promoting, educating and instituting sustainability principles and practices at UM. Watson serves as a constant example and inspiration to her colleagues and to students.

Among other contributions, Watson was pivotal in UM signing the international Talloires Sustainability Principles document on Earth Day 2002, was instrumental in the establishment of the Sustainable Campus Committee that same year, and created & maintains the Greening UM web site. She is the current chair of UM's Recycling Oversight Committee and directs the UM Watershed Health Clinic.

Each year since 1984, Watson has volunteered countless hours to organize UM's Earth Day events, including this year's week long celebration.

Watson is shown below with others participating in the annual Ecopentathlon at UM. Watson & her students started the Ecopentathalon in 2002 to draw attention to the many service opportunities offered to the community each Earth Service Day.
