Greening UM
The University of Montana
The workshop uses a mix of small-group disciplinary discussion, place-based learning, and short presentations by campus and community resource experts to engage different learning styles. The first day of the workshop provides an overview of the idea of sustainability and helps participants observe dimensions of sustainability in the context of their campus and community.
The second day highlights a range of student learning opportunities and possibilities for engagement with campus sustainability initiatives. It also focuses attention on learning outcomes that can guide the process of course revision.
A key aspect of the workshop is cross-disciplinary discussion. On both days, participants work with others to brainstorm possibilities for integrating sustainability in their courses. By the end of the workshop, participants leave with tangible ideas for how they might revise their courses. They share the outcome of their work with one another at follow-up meetings during the Fall Semester.
