2009 CLIMATE ACTION PLAN SURVEY RESULTS

The UM Community was asked to fill the simple survey below.  The results of the survey and the Open House Forum are available here: Survey Compilation Results | Individual Comments | Public Comment

Energy Efficiency and Conservation
What do you think about the ideas for reducing building-related energy consumption?

Renewable Energy
What is your opinion of the proposed strategies for utilizing biomass, solar, and wind as renewable sources of energy?

Transporation
What do you think about the planned strategies for reducing emissions due to transportation?

Carbon Offsets
[The American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment describes carbon offsets this way: “…a carbon offset is a reduction or removal of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that is used to counterbalance or compensate for (“offset”) emissions from other activities.” Carbon Offsets can be purchased on the open market or generated by certified, emission-reducing projects. Carbon Offsets compensate for greenhouse gas emissions that are not directly reduced, such as emissions from essential air travel.]

Should UM purchase carbon offsets to counterbalance its greenhouse gas emissions and eventually achieve carbon neutrality (zero net greenhouse gas emissions)?

Interim Goals
What is your opinion of the interim goals of 10% below 2007 emission levels by 2015 and 30% below 2007 levels by 2020?

Costs
If getting to carbon neutral (zero net greenhouse gas emissions) requires an increase in tuition or student fees, if you are a student, how much more are you willing to pay each semester?
