Damaged Griz Card Policy

The Griz Card is the official University of Montana identification card for students, faculty and staff, alumni, affiliates, and retirees. It provides easy access to University of Montana resources including, but not limited to: dining meal plans, door access, campus recreation access, UMoney, and event access.

The key identifying features of the Griz Card include:

  • Photo
  • Name
  • University ID Number
  • Classification
  • Magnetic Stripe

When a Griz Card is damaged to a point where any of these five identifying features is no longer in good condition, the Griz Card is considered invalid and must be replaced. A University employee or representative or off-campus UMoney merchant has the right to judge whether damage to a card is at a point where it is invalid. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Faded picture
  • Name or ID number worn off
  • Magnetic stripe scratched or worn off
  • Holes punched in magnetic stripe
  • An incomplete card (card dimensions are 3 1/4in. x 2 1/8in.)
  • Cracked or taped card
  • Alterations

Damaged cards can be replaced at the Griz Card Center for $15.
