UM Alumni Band Reunion
The UM Alumni Band will celebrate its 20th reunion Sept. 19 and 20 at Homecoming 2008.
Organizers are aiming for a marching band of at least 100 members in the Homecoming Parade and for the biggest and best Alumni Jazz Band to grace the Missoula Holiday Inn Parkside ballroom stage on Friday night. The Alumni Band also will celebrate Lance Boyd´s 40th year on UM´s music faculty.
Scott McKenzie is the marching band´s new leader. Scott earned his Master of Music degree in 2004 and served as graduate teaching assistant for UM bands from 2002 to 2004. Scott currently is director of bands at Hellgate Elementary School in Missoula where he teaches and conducts students in grades 5-8.
Tom Cook, who led the Alumni Marching Band and served as director of special projects for UM´s School of Fine Arts for the past three years, has accepted a one-year interim position at Friends University in Wichita, Kan. Tom begins his duties there on Aug. 1.
The Alumni Jazz Band continues under the leadership of Gary Gillett, with the assistance of Hal Herbig (pictured above), John Nelson and Lance Boyd.
