Primary Functions

Production-oriented department seeks movement/acting teacher with specialty in movement training from fundamental to advanced levels, including period styles. An interest in and ability to direct a variety of production styles/genres from contemporary to classical periods is very desirable. This is a tenure-track position.

  • Specific teaching assignments, to be selected from the full range of physical performance and acting classes offered in BFA and MFA programs, will be determined by the candidate's demonstrated experience and expertise.
  • Other responsibilities include student advising and serving on departmental and university committees.
  • Possible additional responsibilities include providing leadership to Acting/Directing division and leading in the development and implementation of curriculum.
  • Qualifications

  • MFA in Theatre required; or extensive professional experience in lieu of MFA.
  • Ability to teach the full range of physical performance and acting classes offered in BFA and MFA programs.
  • Evidence of excellence and experience in teaching.
  • Ability to direct, act, and/or choreograph for theatre.
  • Quality of professional training (education and experiential); professional experience; teaching experience; ability to teach in a secondary area.
  • Ability to relate to students, colleagues in a university environment.

    Preferred
    Demonstrated leadership ability will strengthen a candidate's application.
  • Program Overview

    The Department of Drama/Dance is part of the School of Fine Arts, which includes art, music, drama/dance, and media arts. The BA, BFA, MA, and MFA degrees are offered. The department consists of thirteen faculty and six staff positions. Modern performance spaces include a 500-seat proscenium theatre, a multiform theatre, and a dance studio. Support spaces include scenery, props, costumes, lighting, and sound production shops. The Montana Repertory Theatre (a touring Equity company) is in residence and integrated with the training programs. The University of Montana is a member of the National Association of Schools of Theatre.
