Primary Functions

The University of Montana-Missoula seeks nominations and applications for a dynamic and detail-oriented individual to serve as Director of Academic Budgets and Personnel. This position reports directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

The Director of Academic Budgets and Personnel oversees the financial operations of Academic Affairs and personnel matters involving faculty development and advancement. In particular, this position is responsible for:

  • Assisting in the preparation of budgets for both the office of Academic Affairs and the academic units, including all schools, colleges, institutes, clinics, centers and programs
  • Maintaining the oversight of financial matters throughout the fiscal year
  • Providing budgetary advice to the Provost; aiding in the analysis and evaluation of projections
  • Shepherding the processes associated with academic appointments, faculty review, and faculty development
  • Participation in bargaining agreement negotiations
  • Coordinating compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreements
  • Supporting and coordinating academic activities of the campus in the projection of future needs
  • Generating, analyzing and disseminating data necessary for the budgetary planning process that encompasses all existing as well as proposed programs and activities
  • Advising the Provost on personnel matters
  • Coordinating and maintaining files on academic personnel actions
  • Collaborating with Human Resource Services on issues relating to faculty and staf
  • Minimum Job Qualifications

    The successful candidate will possess:

  • At least five years of administrative experience in a college or university setting
  • Computer skills that include Banner and other databases
  • Demonstrated quantitative analysis skills, with the ability to forecast and present data to others in an understandable way
  • A master’s degree or higher
  • Experience in working with faculty members
  • The ability to deal not only with budget and planning issues, but also the communication skills to collaborate effectively on an ongoing basis with other administrators, faculty, and support staff.
