Primary Functions

  • Position provides administration, reconciliation of accounts, guidance and training to all department contacts, affiliate campuses, and guests of UM, and ensures compliance with UM, State, and Federal policies and procedures on matters relating to Guest Speaker and Independent Contractor Contracts, Federal Tax Regulations, ProCard, and purchase orders
  • Position is the primary administrator for faculty, staff, and/or students that travel (domestic and international) for UM business (Issues and reconciles travel, per diem, and entertainment advances and accounts; reviews travel expense reports; issues reimbursements); interprets and ensures compliance with UM, State, and Federal travel policies; maintains accurate records and files; prepares and analyses reports; provides guidance and training to all department contacts, affiliate campuses, and guests of UM
  • Assists the Accounts Payable Manager on policy and procedure development and revision; completes other tasks as assigned
  • Minimum Job Qualifications

  • High school graduation and three (3) years of progressive accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in professional accounting principles and practices
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn, interpret, and apply The University of Montana, Federal, State, and private funding agency policies and procedures
  • Ability to analyze information; identify and resolve errors; prepare related reports
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey complex information in a clear and understandable manner to a diverse group of individuals; ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships
  • Proven skill in the operation of personal computers and related word processing, spreadsheet and database software (MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook) with the ability to learn new software; ability to use standard office equipment; copiers, fax machine, ten key adding machine, multi- line phone system
  • Proven ability to provide effective customer service; create and provide effective trainings and training materials
  • Demonstrated organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills with the ability to complete complex tasks with the highest degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and make sound decisions
