Primary Functions

  • Provides administrative support for the Financial Aid Loan Manager who administers/disburses all forms of financial assistance
  • Informs students and parents about policies and procedures involving financial aid programs, as well as monitoring, editing and performing data entry relevant to all loan activity
  • Communicates with Montana Guaranteed Student Loan Program, as well as other guarantors and lenders verifying borrower’s eligibility and all other information pertaining to loans
  • Assists in releasing or returning loan proceeds in precise detail
  • Performs public relations duties in communicating with students, outside agencies, government offices, and campus staff in person, writing, on the telephone, and electronic correspondence
  • Assists with reception and data entry tasks as needed
  • Minimum Job Qualifications

  • High school graduation and two (2) year related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of standard office practices and procedures; business English, spelling, grammar, composition, with the ability to proofread and edit materials
  • Effective public relations, interpersonal, and communication skills, including the ability to develop and maintain working relationships with a diverse groups of individuals (within the department, University, and general public)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of or the ability to learn The University of Montana, state, and Federal policies and procedures
  • Proven ability to share and explain complex information with others
  • Demonstrated organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills with the ability to accurately complete tasks and meet deadlines in a busy environment
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and act with initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret written and verbal information
  • Demonstrated skill in the operation of personal computers, related word processing and spreadsheet software (MS Office Suite), internet and e- mail with the ability to learn specialized software programs
  • Proven ability to use standard office equipment: copiers, fax machine, 10-key adding machines, typewriters and multi-line phone system
  • Demonstrated ability to provide positive, professional customer service and function effectively as a team member in a fast-paced environment with complex situations and challenges
  • Proven ability to maintain strict confidentiality; accurate files and records
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Financial Aid policies and procedures at The University of Montana
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with Banner database software
