Entry Rate: $16.272/hr. - $17.531/hr.

Primary Functions

  • Position assists in managing and maintaining large databases; responsible to uphold database management protocols, ensure QA/QC methods are strictly followed, ensure compliance with metadata standards, and archive and preserve integrity of incoming data
  • Helps design and develop web-based interfaces for data archival and extraction
  • Assists in coordinating data acquisition and integration from scientific instrumentation
  • Instructs researchers and students in the operation of all data system interfaces on site, including data entry and documentation, database operation, text manipulation and formatting, interactive data analysis
  • Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and one (1) year of relevant related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of relational database functionality and database management systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of SQL query languages and script languages
  • Demonstrated knowledge of SQL Server, MS Access, ArcSDE; Microsoft Internet Information Server, Active Server Pages, .NET Framework, Windows Applications, Visual Basic, C#, C+, JavaScript, HTML, DHTML, AJAX, and HTTP protocol
  • Demonstrated Knowledge of QA/QC procedures
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data loggers and their output
  • Demonstrated knowledge of web design tools and protocols and programming platforms
  • Familiarity with data transfer methods; specialized/scientific data collectors; data formatting issues; and metadata standards
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills while providing attention to detail in work performed
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information effectively to diverse groups of individuals
  • Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of individuals
  • Ability to work within time constraints while remaining flexible
  • Ability to develop databases and create data check procedures/routines
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Academic background in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Sciences and/or related field
  • Working knowledge of and ability to create electronic charts and graphs
