Entry Rate: $10.684/hr. - 11.068/hr.

Primary Functions

  • Responsible for all stages of production and preparation of daily menu items, specialty menu items, food quality, presentation and production requirements including performing skilled cooking assignments
  • Responsible for effective personnel management, supervision, leadership, training and development for all kitchen staff
  • Assists Executive Sous Chef and Production Coordinator in monitoring and maintaining effective control of labor and food costs
  • Assists the Executive Sous Chef in menu and recipe development
  • Responsible for following all health and safety practices in food preparation area including: handling, storing, temperature control, serving food and sanitation of the work environment
  • Keeps current with culinary trends and equipment, and is responsible for preventive maintenance and the use of a variety of simple and complex kitchen equipment
  • Participates in local and professional workshops, attends appropriate on/off campus meetings, and contributes to success of UDS as active member of the management and Culinary Faculty team
  • Minimum Job Qualifications

  • High school graduation and three (3) years progressively responsible work experience in food service, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of cooking methods, techniques and ingredients used for large volume, specialty, gourmet and exhibition cooking
  • Working knowledge of standardized rules and procedures for all food preparation, food safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures with the ability to simultaneously direct, supervise and motivate a combination of production requirements and staff
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, including ability to work with diverse groups of individuals on a daily basis and maintain effective working relationships
  • Demonstrated organizational, time-management and problem-solving skills
  • Skill in the operation of various types of food preparation equipment with the ability to learn new equipment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of controls for labor and food cost management
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and related software, and ability to learn other software programs
  • Must be able to obtain ServSafe Certification within one year of employment
  • Must have, or be able to obtain, a Montana Driver’s License
  • Must be able to work irregular hours, and be willing to work and remain productive in a fast-paced team environment
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Achieved American Culinary Federation (ACF) certification

    Qualified candidates must be able to meet minimum requirements and perform the primary functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 # from floor level to table height, perform duties while standing for long periods of time; work in an environment with noise, chemicals, and varying temperatures
