This position performs complex systems analysis, design, development and maintenance on the secure intranet infrastructure and associated
applications for UM and external clients; develops portal applications in the UM OneStop system; coordinates work with clients to analyze
project requirements, write project specifications, and meet demanding deadlines in the development of unique and complex software
applications
Provides assistance with project management and technical lead functions; serves as an information resource to other programmers and
systems administrators within IT and across campus; contributes to developing public awareness of the department’s services and capabilities;
researches and implements new and innovative programming and multimedia technologies; provides system administration for development
and production servers; assists in supervising student support staff

| Minimum Job Qualifications |
|
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems and/or Computer Science and three (3) years of relevant related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
|

| Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities |
|
Considerable knowledge of a broad range of web development tools including but not limited to: HTML and XML code, CSS, JavaScript, and either Active Server Pages (ASP.net), PHP, JSP, or Ruby on Rails
Extensive knowledge and experience with object oriented programming languages such as C++, C#, Python or Java
Proficiency in the use of operating systems and servers including but not limited to: Windows server, IIS, Linux, and Apache
Demonstrated knowledge of software engineering principles (requirements specifications, object oriented design patterns, technical writing, code commenting) ability to apply knowledge
Demonstrated database modeling and design skills
Demonstrated knowledge of server hardware
Ability to understand business problems/needs and develop programming solutions
Ability to take responsibility for projects; complete projects and program time estimates; demonstrated knowledge of software development project management practices
Ability to design efficient user interfaces for web sites and applications
Ability to lead and direct the work of support staff
Knowledge of or the ability to learn The University of Montana policies and procedures
Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to share technical information with a diverse group of end users and peers while providing positive customer service
Ability to research and analyze complex technical problems and apply sound judgment; ability to quickly identify and work with users and technical staff to correct problems; ability to learn new technologies and maintain technical currency
Demonstrated time management and multitasking skills with the ability to efficiently distribute effort among various assignments and duties and complete projects with critical deadlines

Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with Oracle Application Server 10g and Oracle Portal, Java J2EE development, JSR-168 Portlet
Standards, SQL Server 2005, Code versioning systems (Subversion), and/or Visual Source Safe
Proficient with Eclipse, and/or Visual Studio development environments

UM Students, Faculty and Staff would like to be able to post and view online classifieds on a website that you need to create. This site would allow users to browse classifieds that have been posted by other users, post a new classified ad and bookmark classifieds that they find interesting. The site will require that users authenticate by their university NetID so that the system is specific to the UM community.
