On Friday, February 17th, 2006 the UM Kaimin student newspaper published an article describing Student Payroll processes

DTE: The Facts
DTE stands for Distributed Time Entry
DTE Student will support time entry for student employees only.
Departments will enter work hours into a web-based interface in favor of time cards.
Department administrators will approve the time through the interface.
HRS Student Payroll will continue to process the approved submissions.
HRS will support departments through training on the DTE system.
DTE: The Benefits
DTE will enable departments to save time by eliminating paper driven processes.
View student employees & print summary reports on data entry.
Make funding changes, and ensure the integrity of pay details.
DTE will enable HRS to support Semi-Monthly Student Payroll.
DTE Student: Implementation Timeline
Pilot Program - October 2006
Departmental Training & Rollout - Late Fall Semester
Semi-Monthly Student Payroll: The Facts
At present, Student Employees are paid once per month.
For a number of years Student Employees have sought Semi-monthly pay.
The proposed dates for SMSP are the 1st & 15th of each month.
As outlined by HRS Director, Rob Gannon:
"With the investment of some programming time and with some modification to internal business practices, transitioning the existing student payroll process from a monthly to a semi-monthly cycle can be accomplished in the next 18-24 months."
Key Factors
CIS boosts system processing capacity mitigating a 25% increase due to SMSP.
HRS implements DTE off-setting requirement of additional HRS Student Payroll staff.
Also outlined by HRS Director, Rob Gannon:
"If CIS effectively increases system capacity, and if DTE-Student is launched collaterally, semi-monthly student payroll (SMSP) can be realized within a 6-9 month timeframe on the UM-Missoula campus."
