    Career Ladder Overview
A pre-established plan allowing an employee to grow in their career. The employee meets goals over a set period of time (usually 6 months to 1 year), leading to increased responsibility. For departments in need of a higher level of work and responsibility from an employee, and when and funding is available, a career ladder is a valid pathway to promotion. However, career ladders are not available for every position.

    Individual Ladder
Move an employee to a new title in a different series. For example, a department’s Administrative Associate I could become a Computer Technician I by following a plan developed by the supervisor and approved by HRS.

    Pre-Approved Series Ladders
Give an employee a higher level of responsibility within their current position. For example, the Administrative Associate I would become an Administrative Associate II with a corresponding pay-raise.
