MLS, a unique, interactive and award-winning instructional approach to cross-cultural and global competence building, is utilized to train students, faculty, administrators, and staff to become more internationally minded and multiculturally competent in today´s global world. Since 2003, MLS has conducted cross-cultural research and developed over 200 trainings, which are now available through Global Gateway.

Since November 2013, Multicultural Learning Solutions (MLS) is the research and development unit for Global Gateway, in the Office of International Programs (OIP) at the University of Montana.

MLS embraces the concept of creating unity through cultural diversity, by fostering cultural understanding and collaboration for learners of any age group at the University of Montana and its community.

Since 2003, MLS has provided over 200 professional global competence seminars and workshops at UM. MLS reduces ethnocentric attitudes, while simultaneously increasing multicultural awareness and promotes the development of a cosmopolitan mindset.

MLS cultural and global competence courses were first developed and offered in 2004 by Dr. Udo Fluck, to accommodate the challenge of today's changing workplace, which demands international and multicultural knowledge and skills. Courses as well as global competence workshops and seminars taught by Dr. Fluck, have had a phenomenal growth during recent years.

MLS was also featured in a variety of publications.

MLS remains highly interdisciplinary with courses and presentations offered across campus in various academic and service departments. With the Global Gateway Initiative, the Office of International Programs strives to further contribute to the internationalization efforts of the University of Montana and the building of an institution of higher education for the global century.
