Jerry Fetz
Acting Director, International Programs
Dean Fetz assumed the position of Acting Director of International Programs in March, 2012. At the University of Montana since 1970, he has served as Professor of German Studies, Chair of the Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures Department, Dean of the Davidson Honors College, and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. He served for several years as the Chair of UM’s International Committee, was a Fulbright Visiting Professor at the University of Heidelberg, directed study abroad programs in Germany, Austria, and England, received UM’s Distinguished Teaching Award in 1988, and was instrumental in the establishment of Missoula’s Sister-City Relationship with Neckargemuend, Germany. He retired from full-time work at UM in December 2008. But since then he has worked part time on several UM initiatives, including the Crown of the Continent Initiative, the creation of a UM Retiree Association, and, for International Programs, as UM Liaison for European Partnerships and Scholarly Exchanges. He has published widely in the area of 20th/21st Century German and Austrian Literature and Culture, and for the past ten years has served as Secretary-Treasurer of the German Studies Association.

Quincie Albrecht
Instructor, English Language Institute (ELI)
Quincie has been teaching ESL since 1995 and has been at the ELI since 2001. She has taught in Portugal, in the United Arab Emirates and at Colorado State University, where she earned a master’s degree in TESOL. She is also an alumna of The University of Montana, where she earned a Master of Public Administration degree.

Peter Baker
International Development Officer
Peter joined International Programs in 2011 after five years at the U.S. Department of Education, four of which were in the Department’s International and Foreign Language Education Service. After graduating from The University of Montana in 1999, he served in Kyrgyzstan as a Peace Corps Volunteer and received his master’s degree in secondary education in a Peace Corps Fellows program while teaching on the Navajo Nation. As the University’s International Development Officer, Peter works to strengthen linkages with overseas institutions; identify funding opportunities to support international education; increase the number of international students studying at the University; develop and monitor the international component of the University’s strategic plan; and create systems to enhance international-focused linkages between individuals and groups on campus.

Heather Breckenridge
Instructor, English Language Institute (ELI)
Heather began working and teaching ESL for the Summer Language Programs at The University of Montana in 1999. She has taught in Korea, in Taiwan, and at The University of Montana, where she has been teaching at ELI since 2004. She earned a Master's degree in Bilingual / Multicultural Education from Northern Arizona. In addition, she earned a TESOL and Secondary English Teaching Licensure and a certificate to Teach English as a Second Language.

Charlene Campbell
Faculty Affiliate
Charlene Campbell Carey has worked as a professional dancer, choreographer and master teacher in Chicago, New York and Los Angeles where she also worked in film and television. In 1998 Ms. Carey founded Rocky Mountain Ballet Theatre in Missoula, MT as Artistic Director. In 2002 RMBT began to perform and teach internationally and in 2008 took its "Montana" program to China on a diplomatic tour arranged by Ms. Carey and the Chinese Embassy. Ms. Carey is now working with International Programs to facilitate cultural and artistic exchanges in Asia, Eastern Europe and South America.

Udo Fluck
Associate Director, International and Global Studies Program
Director, Multicultural Learning Solutions, International Programs
Udo Fluck holds a Ph.D. and two Master’s degrees from The University of Montana with an emphasis in multicultural education, instructional media technology and international media management. During the past decade, he has worked as a curriculum developer, faculty member and cross-cultural researcher in Germany and the United States. As the Director of Multicultural Learning Solutions (MLS) Fluck has been teaching courses in cross-cultural management for the past six years on campus. In his current role in International Programs, he will play a leading role in the implementation of the International and Global Studies major.

Director, English Language Institute - Dr. Sandra Janusch
Sandra Janusch received a PhD in TESOL from the University of Calgary in 2007. She has taught ESL/EFL in China, the US, Vietnam, Canada, the Netherlands, France and Indonesia. Sandra has had extensive experience in training teachers of English as a second language, managing ESL/EFL academic programs, and in teaching online courses in pedagogy and second language learning at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Brian Lofink
Associate Director for International Events and Campus/Community Collaborations
Brian Lofink is the Associate Director for International Events and Campus/Community Collaborations for the Office of International Programs (OIP) at The University of Montana (UM). His position requires him to work collaboratively with UM and community leaders that focus on international matters. Mr. Lofink works closely with a wide range of individuals and groups on campus and in the community and beyond to develop and carry out the mission of OIP and implement recommendations made internally, by UM’s administration. In his position, he is responsible for organizing and implementing the logistical aspects of international visitations and conferences. Also, he coordinates OIP’s communication and interaction with various Missoula-area organizations regarding UM’s (and frequently the community’s) international activities and matters, such as Missoula’s Sister-City Program or delegations from abroad that are visiting Missoula and/or Montana. In addition, Mr. Lofink has extensive experience in working in educational training programs. He has managed or participated in more than 20 professional educational development training programs. Programs have been funded by agencies such as but not limited to the Asian Development Bank, World Bank, U.S. Department of Education, and American Councils for International Education (ACCELS).

Anna Lokowich
Instructor, English Language Institute (ELI)
Anna has been teaching ESL since 1996 and has been at the ELI since 2005. She has taught in Japan, Haïti, and at The University of Montana, where she earned an MA in French Literature and a certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language.

Nancy Matthews
Faculty Affiliate
Nancy Matthews has spent most of her adult life in the international field, first as the spouse of a Foreign Service Officer and then as a Vice President for the Arts and Cultural Affairs at Meridian International Center in Washington, D.C.
She accompanied her husband on assignments to Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Vietnam, Mexico, and Egypt. In 1979, while posted in Cairo, she founded a magazine, Cairo Today, which later became Egypt Today and is distributed throughout the Middle East.
As Vice President at Meridian, she organized many major international art exhibitions in pursuit of the organization’s mission to promote international understanding. These included major exhibitions from Singapore, Senegal, Germany, Israel/ Palestine, Cuba, South Africa, Vietnam, Iran and China. She traveled to each of these countries several times during the organization process, always working closely with local experts, artists, curators, and museums. All of the resulting exhibitions toured the United States extensively.

Lee Ann Millar

Lee Ann has been at the English Language Institute (ELI) since it began in 1993. She has traveled extensively; she taught in San Francisco and Japan before coming to Missoula. Lee Ann holds a Master of Arts (MA) in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from San Francisco State University.

Janet Rose
Faculty Affiliate
Janet is Executive Director/Festival Director of the International Wildlife Media Center and Film Festival, which is the umbrella organization for the International Wildlife Film Festival and for the more recent, Montana CINE International Film Festival. Janet is an international media and communications specialist and was formerly head of Conservation Communications for the Wildlife Conservation Society and prior to that, an investigative television correspondent. Her undergraduate degree is from NYU in journalism and pre-law and she has done graduate work in zoology at Fordham University.

Josh Rosenberger

Josh began teaching ESL in 2001, when he worked with refugees and immigrants as an Americorps volunteer. Since then he has taught English in Ecuador, Korea, Nebraska, and Montana. Josh graduated from The University of Montana with an MA in Applied Linguistics.

Sara Smith

Sara joined International Programs in 2010. She provides assistance to students applying to the ELI, maintains ELI SEVIS records, and provides non-academic support for ELI students on campus.

Geoffrey Sutton
Geoffrey Sutton is a nationally known business leader in the arts. A former Art gallery owner and Photographer, Geoff has spent the last ten years as a program manager at The Montana World Trade center at the University of Montana. There he created Cultural and economic exchanges for Montana artist and theatre with exhibits in Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, and China. As an Economic Developer with the Governor’s office of Economic Development, Geoff has worked in Rural Montana and on Montana’s Indian reservations providing arts business development. At the trade center Geoff has provided creative enterprise business development with Panama’s indigenous population and in rural Patagonia Chile.

James Taylor
Visiting Scholar
James Park Taylor graduated with honors in 1980 from the University of Montana School of Law. After 25 years as a criminal defense practitioner, he taught for two years as a Visiting Clinical Supervisor at the University of Montana School of Law. He is presently is employed as the Co-Director of the Mansfield Legal Reform Initiative at the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center. For the 2008-2009 academic year, he will travel to China as part of a cooperative arrangement between the Mansfield Center and the NGO International Bridges to Justice, helping to establish criminal defense clinics at law schools in China.

Lisa Willis
Instructor, English Language Institute (ELI)
Lisa began teaching ESL during her AmeriCorps Experience in Washington State in 2003. Since then she has taught ESL and third grade in Minnesota. She has traveled extensively in Turkey, Costa Rica, Australia, France, and England. She earned a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Montana State University and an ESL endorsement from Western Washington University. Lisa holds a Montana teaching license, ESL endorsement and TESOL certificate.
