Academic Information

Registration

International exchange students may register for classes before their arrival to the University of Montana. If students choose to register prior to their arrival, they will increase their likelihood of enrolling in their preferred classes and they can still have the option to change their classes after they arrive. Students at the undergraduate level must register for at least 12 credits; students at the graduate level must register for at least 9 credits. Every student will be assigned an academic advisor in their acceptance packet to assist with choosing appropriate courses. Please note that some classes may require extra fees, which are noted in the online Class Schedule system.

University Catalog

A listing of all courses offered by the University of Montana for any given academic year can be accessed through the University Catalog.

Class Schedule

Classes that are available and offered for a specific semester can be found using the online Course Search. Students can search for classes and find their scheduled day and time, professor, and location. Any special fees for the classes (for which the student will be responsible) are also listed here. It is important to note the five-digit Course Request Number (CRN), as it will be required to register.

Cyberbear

Registration is usually available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through Cyberbear. In order to access Cyberbear, the student is required to enter their NetID, provided in the student’s acceptance packet, and PIN (Personal Identification Number). The initial assigned PIN is the last six digits of the individual’s student ID number (790#).

Insurance

University of Montana requires all students taking 7 or more credits to have and maintain major medical insurance. Before you can register for classes, you will be prompted to BUY or REFUSE the student Blue Cross Blue Shield plan. You may refuse this option only if you have other major medical insurance coverage. You must make a selection (buy or refuse) before you can proceed to the class selection area on Cyberbear. Only one selection can be made via Cyberbear. If you refuse this option, you must provide written proof of your insurance coverage to the Student Insurance Office before the 15th class day. Changes to Student Insurance and/or Curry Health Fee also must be made at the Student Insurance Office no later than the 15th instructional day of the semester the student is registered for.
