Once Accepted for Partner Universities
What can I start doing now that I've been nominated?

There are now additional required documents available on your online study abroad account. Login to complete them.

Be sure to complete the necessary steps for your host university application.

Attend the mandatory pre-departure orientation and 2 cultural workshops.

Make sure you have a valid passport. If not, find out how to apply.

Start research on accommodation options at your host university and apply as soon as possible!

Review the UM Study Abroad Student Handbook especially to learn how to cope with cultural adjustment, how to stay healthy, and how to stay safe.

Start research on your student visa as soon as possible. Some countries may require an FBI background check which can take up to 3 months to process before you can apply for your visa.

Review the State Department website for country specific information on health and safety.

Research your host country's immunization requirements and recommendations.

Apply for financial aid if you plan to use it for your study abroad semester(s).

Research your health insurance. Find out if your current insurance meets UM's minimum requirement and your options for insurance coverage.

Contact a UM Study Abroad Ambassador and check out the UM Study Abroad Facebook site for advice on your exchange.
Now that I have attended the orientation, what's next?

Refer to the Study Abroad Checklist to make sure you have everything completed! Link to the new partner checklist in group files in pre-departure orientation folder.

As soon as you can register on Cyberbear, login, make your insurance selection, and log off. You do not need your advising PIN to login.

Submit your Insurance Coverage Form to the Office of International Programs by the deadline listed on your Student Checklist.

If you change your study plan, then you need to update your Study Plan Approval Form. Please review what a full-time course load is at your host institution and how your credits and grades will transfer back to UM.

If you expect a financial aid refund, be sure to select your refund preference.

Purchase your plane ticket. Make sure this coincides with your visa requirements.

Notify your host institution of your arrival plans.

Pay your UM student bill and finalize your account by the deadline provided by the Office of International Programs.
