Non-UM Programs
Our goal is to encourage every student at The University of Montana to participate in Study Abroad during their academic career at the university. We recognize that not all students will find a program at the university that fits their academic interests and needs. For this reason, many students choose to participate in a Study Abroad Program that is not sponsored by The University of Montana, International Programs, or one of The University of Montana's academic departments. For information about finding and applying for such a program, safety, credit transfer, financial aid, and preparing for your departure, please read our Non-UM Study Abroad Program handout.
UM students find many excellent non-UM programs in which they may participate. Here are a few examples of programs that past students have found to be successful:
Students may also find some program ideas by searching any of the following websites: www.studyabroad.com, www.goabroad.com, or www.iie.org.
We encourage all students to complete a Non-UM Program Study Plan Approval Form prior to their departure in order to ensure their credit transfer. Upon completing this form, students should leave a copy with their advisor and store the original in a safe place at home. (International Programs does not keep a file of students' Study Plan Approval Forms, so please do not send the completed form to us. It is the student's responsibility to keep this form in a safe place until graduation.)
